Update

I may have moved again - I'm going to try one of these. No definite switching yet, but they do seem much easier to use given the way I use my blog. That is, minimally or not at all.

Obsession

I know I owe a more substantial description of my new life, but in the meantime, check out the current state of my bathroom cabinet.

I'm really liking my new job, but I think I might be working for the wrong company.

Was good. I'm sure I'll write more eventually, but I'm sleepy.

Well

I'm sitting at the gate, and in 45 minutes will officially stop being a New Yorker and begin the process that will bring me home again.

I didn't think I was sad, but this morning, I was, inevitably. Endings and beginnings are bittersweet, and leaving New York is never easy. Even Michael Stipe agrees.

After dropping off my bags, I took the escalator to my gate, Sufjan Stevens over the speakers and a brief burst of tears. I'll feel better once I'm on the plane, I think, but right now I just feel empty.

Thanks for dinner last night, girls. It was a lovely way to end my stay.

It all happened so fast

I'm leaving New York in 21 hours, and I imagine I won't be living in this city again.

It's an odd feeling, moving back, because even though I'll be going home to a lot of new things, it feels like it will just be overwhelmingly familiar. I'm looking forward to it.

I got a job offer

Which means I could be back in SF as early as January 29. Crazy.

I got boots!

It's amazing what three people with an idea can do to make such an impact in their community, benefiting both the displaced refugees and the more well-off American families whose children attend the school.

Glamour

I'm so looking forward to going home. The office has been quiet, which allows for time to collect and catch up, and the slow winding down is a nice transition into the holidays.

We saw Wintuk tonight. It was lovely. Not as breathtaking as expected, but still lovely.

I also found a large dead bug amid my tanktops this morning. Kathy was kind enough to save me from it. It was like a cockroach, but mothlike and somewhat furry. Very unlovely.

I read my e-mails, but I don't write any. I'm a Neanderthal -- I don't even type. I do have the rudimentary capability of calling up some Web sites, like the New York Times online, that sort of stuff. No laptop. No PalmPilot. I prefer my schedule on notecards, which I keep in my jacket pocket.

But my wife has enormous capability. Whenever I want something I ask her to do it. She's just a wizard. She even does my boarding passes -- people can do that now. When we go to the movies, she gets the tickets ahead of time. It's incredible.

I like that he thinks his wife is some sort of technology guru. It's rather endearing.

I like this immensely, for the obvious reasons of typography in motion, but also for the music. Who would suspect that design magazines would lead me to Uruguayan bands?

I need to learn how to do this, and I need to learn more languages.

Excitement

Upon walking out of the subway, a young boy in front of me picked up a penny, at which point he proceeded to sing to his mother, "I found a lucky pennny! I found a lucky lucky pennnyy!!" It made me wonder what sort of euphoria a dollar might induce.

The Excel course I took today was subpar; cross your fingers for Monday.

I managed to catch some snowflakes today.

Second Look

I've been sick for the last few days, which means I've had a lot of time to read and learn today. Among the interesting things I've stumbled upon:

• A persuasive argument that Edwards would make the best president, put together by Steven Kirsch. I was led to Kirsch by this article in the New York Times which summarizes, in two pages, his entrepreneurial background, his philanthropy, and his fight against cancer.
  

• Physics for Future Presidents, recommended to me by a friend a few years ago, rediscovered through the internet. A bit silly that I'm listening to podcasts of a course I could have taken in person, but better late than never. And, interestingly enough, I think I'm getting more out of it now. I downloaded the audio lectures from iTunes Music Store, but you can get the video from Google Video, or both from the course website mentioned above. Lovely to be home. The streets feel empty and the airport was delightfully uncrowded. Hope I'm not becoming a New Yorker.

My Hands Are Dry

I spent much of yesterday cleaning, the results of which make me immensely happy, and should spend the rest of today taking steps towards my grand departure. I also tried (and subsequently succeded) to make oatmeal this morning, during which I learned that boiling milk, water, and apples is not a good idea.

The latest plan includes marrying Raj and becoming a photographer. This picture gives me hope.

It is hard not to be at least a little bit in love with Barack Obama, isn't it?

So Is Life.

Well, I didn't get that job at Google I'd applied for. I do kind of feel like any application for a job there is a bit of a long shot, so while I think it would have been great, I'm not terribly disappointed.

It's good, though, because I am sorting things out, future-related things, that is. It is supposed to be quite a rainy Saturday tomorrow which is all the more incentive to hole up in my room and study, apply, etc.

In other news, Facebook has been valued at $15 billion, and apparently not all 23-year-olds are as confused as me.

Does this mark my return to the blogging world?
