Apparently Levi's is suing many companies for copying their pocket pattern. The familiar symbol of two curves meeting (much like the 'birds' children might pepper a drawing with) are apparently trademarked and the cause for the litigation.
...the company says, they are about removing copycats from stores. Nearly all the cases have settled out of court, with Levi’s smaller rivals agreeing to stop making the offending pants and to destroy unsold pairs.
It seems unfortunate, though, that probably thousands of pants were destroyed in the name of this lawsuit. Does it not occur to companies to perhaps donate them to shelters or people in need? There are many people in this world who would be so thankful for a pair of clean pants, who would probably themselves remove those illegal pockets if that was the only requirement to wear them.
The world's inefficiency can be frightening at times. It was my motivation for taking IEOR courses, but somehow, I don't think that will be enough.

As much as I am looking forward to a Democrat in the White House (knock on wood) and as much as I appreciate the rise of women in politics, I did think that
Mrs. Clinton, leaning against a needlepoint pillow, [calling] for the start of “a dialogue about your ideas and mine. Because the conversation in Washington has been just a little one-sided lately, don’t you think?”
was a little over the top. I'm not looking for a high school guidance counselor, here, I'm looking for a respectable person to lead our nation. I realize, though, that there are probably a great many people who are looking for that sort of thing. So if that's what she thinks she needs to do, then so be it. She'll still have my vote, if she wins the primaries, and at the very least, it's good Daily Show material.

In remarks made in New York recently regarding global warming, Prince Charles said, "Perhaps we should see this as a war we simply have to win." Funny wording given the views and stubbornness of our president. I wonder if he intended it. In any case, he's right.
Although Clinton's comment was a bit "over the top", i think the concept is a good one. If Time's person of the year is "you", why should "we" have a bigger say in the nitty gritty parts of running the country? We have this electoral college thing because it woulda been too chaotic to use actual votes, right? But now, don't we have enough technologically advanced systems to allow us to count every vote as a vote? Ok, that got way off track...but what i'm trying to say is i think it's good that she's at least making an effort (or pretending to make an effort) to open up a dialogue with actual people, rather than just advisors and whatnot. The most frustrating thing about the bush presidency is the fact that he DOESN'T LISTEN to anyone but the retarded hick characters inside his head. (bitter? me? nahh.)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, she has a good concept...just probably unattainable. At this point, anyone would be better than what we've got now.

Yes, it's definitely a good concept, and that is one of the more frustrating things about Bush. Did you see the Daily Show commentary? It's here, under the headline, "Let the Conversation Begin."
